Top BJP leader quits LS to 'work for people'

V K Malhotra, who was Bharatiya Janata Party's chief ministerial candidate in Delhi, on Tuesday resigned from the Lok Sabha after deciding to keep his Greater Kailash assembly seat.

Malhotra, the deputy leader of BJP parliamentary party in Lok Sabha, conveyed his decision to Speaker Somnath Chatterjee through a one-line letter, party sources said.

The BJP leader was projected as the party's chief ministerial candidate in the Delhi assembly elections, which the saffron party lost to Congress.

Malhotra had on Sunday had said he would resign as MP to keep his assembly constituency.

"I have decided to resign from my Parliamentary seat of south Delhi and will work for the people of my Greater Kailash assembly constituency, who have shown faith in me by electing me as an MLA," Malhotra had said.
