Union Home Minister P Chidambaram today dismissed reports that some chief ministers were angry with the contents of his letter to them on the steps they should take to thwart terrorism.

"It is a very politely worded letter suggesting measures for consideration. No one should try to play mischief with a matter of this gravity," he said when asked to comment on a report that a few state governments have reacted adversely to the "tone and tenor" of his letter.

Soon after taking over the Home Ministry, Chidambaram wrote to chief ministers asking them to take immediate action to prevent terrorist activities.

When told that states, including West Bengal, had reportedly objected to his letter, the Home Minister said the response he received from West Bengal did not have any such mention.

On how he viewed his one month in the Home Ministry, Chidambaram said "it is an on going work".
