Amid rising tension between India and Pakistan after the deadly terrorist attacks in Mumbai, three services chiefs met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday to brief him on latest security situation.
Three service chiefs briefed the Cabinet Committee on Security on Friday on developments in Jammu and Kashmir and particulury the movement across the border. This was confirmed by senior official of the Prime minister's office in a conversation with rediff.com.
The meeting was presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Others who attended the meeting included Defence Minister A K Antony, Home Minister P Chidambaram and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.
Though the Defence Ministry described the meeting between the PM and the Services chiefs as routine, it assumed
significance amid reports that there was a build up of Pakistani troops on their eastern borders.
"The Prime Minister has been frequently meeting with the Services chiefs to discuss security issues since the November 26 Mumbai terror strikes. And this meeting today was also part of that exercise," the sources added.
After investigations into the Mumbai terror attacks revealed involvement of Pakistanis, New Delhi has been pressing for international pressure on Islamabad to clamp down on the terror outfits operating from its soil.
