Two days after snapping ties with the Pattali Makkal Katchi, the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Tamil Nadu on Friday said it was prepared to revive the same if the leadership of that party expressed regret for the 'vituperative' speeches by PMK leader J Guru against DMK leaders and take action against him.

The DMK stand was revealed by party president M Karunanidhi to Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Tol Tirumavalavan, when the latter called on him at his residence on Friday morning.

Tirumavalavan disclosed this to media persons after emerging from the 10 minute meeting with Karunanidhi.

On June 17, the DMK had severed its ties with PMK, a constituent of the Democratic Progressive Alliance in the state.
A meeting of the DMK high-level committee chaired by Karunanidhi adopted a resolution that day, stating that the ties with the PMK cannot be continued in view of the 'insult' heaped on it by the PMK leadership day in and day out.

Karunanidhi had referred to threats made by Guru against DMK leaders and said he heard the CD containing his speech for the first time only on June 13 last. The resolution had said that PMK leader Dr Ramadoss had neither denied Guru's speech and had not even expressed regret for it.

It said Dr Ramadoss had been criticising all acts of the DMK government in an attempt to attain cheap political publicity and paint the government as an anti-people. Under these circumstances, the DMK cannot continue its relationship with the PMK, the resolution had added.
