A suspected Harkat-ul- Mujahideen militant, who allegedly aided Pakistani militants to smuggle RDX into the national capital seven years ago, was arrested in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Habibur Rehman, trained in Pakistan in handling improvised explosive devices and other explosive devices, was caught from Sarai Kalekhan locality on Monday evening, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar said.
Rehman, hailing from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, was on the run since September 2001 after two Pakistani militants -- Maqsood Ahmed and Sayyed Mohammed -- claimed that he and another militant Ashad Hilal helped them in smuggling explosives into the capital.
On the information provided by the Pakistani youths, a raid was conducted at their Okhla hideout, from where another 6 kg of RDX. But Rehman and Hilal managed to escape.
While Hilal was caught in September last year, the Moradabad youth carries a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, Kumar said, adding that Ahmed and Mohammed were convicted in March 2006.
During interrogations, Kumar claimed, Rehman told investigators that he fled from Delhi soon after the arrests of his Pakistani accomplices and hid himself in Haldwani in Uttaranchal.
He also told police that he visited Pakistan for training in 1999 and was imparted training in Mansera in Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir.
Rehman underwent training in the handling of AK-47, light machine gun, launching of grenades besides assembling of IEDs, Kumar said.
He revealed that he met Ahmed in Zakir Nagar in 2001 and provided him a safe hideout in Taimoor locality of the capital besides arranging a mobile for the latter, he said.
They also made arrangements for sending Mohammed to Jammu and Kashmir for bringing consignment of explosives meant for subversive activities, he claimed.
A case has been registered and further investigations are on, Kumar said.
