The Congress on Friday termed "biggest joke", the BJP's announcement of six candidates for the next Lok Sabha elections.

It also accused the saffron party of seeking to benefit from the rising inflation and other problems facing the common man.

"The BJP's announcement of candidates is the biggest joke on the people of the country," Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmad said.

Seeking to ridicule the BJP move, he said, "As a spokesman I can announce seven Congress candidates without holding any meeting as was done by the BJP."

He said Congress president Sonia Gandhi, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, senior leaders Pranab Mukherjee, Kapil Sibal, P Chidambaram, Kamal Nath and P R Dasmunsi would contest the Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP had on Thursday declared the first list of its candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.
