On a day when the CPI(M) accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of being responsible for the current crisis arising out of the UPA-Left standoff on the Indo-US nuclear deal, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has showered praises on him as an "able" leader "whose work speaks for itself.

Commending the Prime Minister for the achievements of the government in the past four years, she said, "I have no hesitation in extending to him on behalf of myself and all of you, congratulations for the achievements of the government."

"It is not often we have a leader who lets his work speak for itself rather than lofty speeches," she said and asked partymen communicate the achievements of the government to the people.

CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat, in an article in party organ People's Democracy, charged the Prime Minister with being creating the prevailing political crisis saying his "renewed bid" to go to the IAEA to seek its approval for the safeguards agreement to operationalise the Indo-US nuclear deal was the main reason.

Sonia asked the Congressmen to strengthen the party and build "living contact" with members at each level of the organisation.

"We have to strategise to ensure that the knowledge of all that the UPA has achieved is communicated to the Indian people so that they are prompted to make the right choice for

the future of our country by voting the Congress back to power," she said in a "Letter to Congresspersons" in party mouthpiece "Congress Sandesh".

The Congress has the capacity to draw lessons from "temporary" electoral defeats and renergise itself to meet emerging challenges, she said.
