There have been a "few isolated cases of subversion" of security force personnel but it would be inappropriate to draw any general conclusion of any nexus with terrorists, government told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

"There is no nexus between personnel of security forces including para-military forces and terrorists," Home Minister Shivraj Patil said in reply to questions.

"However, a few isolated cases of subversion of force personnel have been detected which are dealt with firmly as per law," he said, adding, "It would be inappropriate to draw any general conclusion of any nexus, etc. from such isolated cases."

The government has taken measures to prevent such possibilities and these include verification of character and antecedents at the time of recruitment, internal vigilance and surveillance, counselling within the units.

"We have seven lakh members of Central Police forces and if 4-5 cases are detected and draw a general conclusion that a nexus existed between security forces and terrorists would be a very extreme position and this may demoralise the police forces," the minister said.

He said that a few isolated cases of subversion of force personnel have been detected which were dealt with firmly as per law.

Replying to a query that some of the terrorists, who have left this path and were taken back into forces, were involved in such incidents, the minister said it was states who make strategies with regard to this and the Centre was only providing funds.
