Panic was triggered at the Sai Baba Temple in South Delhi on Thursday evening after police received an anonymous telephone call threatening to blow up the shrine, but the threat turned out to be hoax.
Bomb disposal teams and dog squads scoured the premises of Sai Baba Temple in Lodhi Colony of south Delhi after the threat call, but they did not find any thing suspicious, a senior police officer said.
A temple administration official said that they came to know about the threat call after police teams reached the spot and started carrying out searches.
"They told us that the Police Control Room received a bomb threat call at around 5 pm.," the official added.
The temple, which is very popular among the denizens, was immediately evacuated and after about an hour of searches at the premises, the call was declared a hoax, a senior police officer said.
"We are trying to trace the origin of the call," he added.
The threat call came in the backdrop of serial blasts in Jaipur two days ago, in which over 60 people were killed.
According to Delhi police crime data for 2007, the police control had received a total of 6,370 hoax calls last year, which kept the sleuths on their toes.
However, there was a decline of 27 per cent (8,771 bogus calls in 2006) in the number of such calls.
