Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and her senior party leaders today faced the wrath of the Delhi Chief Electoral Office for alleged violation of model code of conduct at an election campaign.
The incident happened at around 1.30 pm when Dikshit and her party colleagues J P Agarwal and Sajjan Kumar along with others were in the midst of delivering speeches at a programme in Nawada village in Uttam Nagar assembly constituency to campaign for party candidate Mukesh Sharma.
However, the election officials interrupted the rally in between alleging that the programme was being held without its permission and blocking the traffic on the road.
Dikshit had to return from the rally without delivering her speech, sources told PTI.
The election office has also decided to take action against the police officers concerned for granting permission for an election meeting on the road, thus causing inconvenience to public.
"We are considering taking action against local police for permitting the election meeting which blocked traffic in Uttam Nagar," Chief Electoral Officer Satbir Silas Bedi told reporters.
The action came following BJP's complaint alleging violation of model code of conduct by Congress party and its leaders by organising the rally on the road which, the saffron party leaders alleged led to traffic mess in the area.
BJP's chief ministerial candidate V K Malhotra is also facing charges by the Election Commission over the issue of violation of model code of conduct during filing of his nomination papers.
