Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in a letter written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has objected to exclusion of terrorism from the agenda of National Integration Council (NIC) meeting.
In the letter, copy of which was also sent to Chief Ministers of all the states, Modi said that steps to remove terrorism, a threat to the country and life of innocent
people, from the agenda of NIC to be held on October 13 was "shocking".
"It seems that the UPA government is still not serious about terrorism even after so many terror strikes in the country," Modi said in the letter.
He further said that he had many times requested Prime Minister to call a meeting of NIC and chalk out a national policy to fight terrorism.
"Now, when the meeting is called the Centre has not included terrorism in the agenda. Terrorism should have been the main subject for discussion at the NIC, which deals with national integration and security," he further said.
"NIC deals with security and national integration, while National Development Council deals with development. This time the items included on the agenda of NIC can actually be taken up in the meeting of National Development Council," Modi opined.
Modi said he told the Prime Minister that he might not be aware of this development due to his busy schedule but should pay attention to the details after receiving this letter.
"If terrorism is not discussed, the meeting of NIC would just be a formality," Modi further said.
The letter said the agenda of the meeting, to be held on October 13, was made available to Modi this evening, which gives less time to the Chief Minister to prepare for the subjects to be discussed in the meet.
