Congress president Sonia Gandhi is expected to reshuffle senior leaders in the party in a couple of days, sources said on Monday.

"Ashok Gehlot, who became chief minister of Rajasthan, has left a vacancy. He was in charge of several states. This is also the time to do something about Margaret Alva who had been sidelined for her anti-party comments in last few months," a party general secretary told rediff.com.

Sonia has not been very happy with the performance of some senior leaders in the recent state assembly. It is said that she told them bluntly that the kind of effort that they had put in is not good enough and if they had worked to even half their capacity, the party would have got far more seats than they did otherwise.

Party general secretaries and the state office bearers have been asked to quicken the selection process to choose candidates for the Lok Sabha elections so that those in the fray could be given a mandate in time to begin their campaign in right earnest.

Former chief minister of Karnataka S M Krishna is expected to replace Gehlot. Some other top leaders may be asked to jump into the electoral fray for the coming Lok Sabha elections.

General secretaries have also been told to revamp the party at the state level units and come up with the list of the probable candidates.
