Former vice president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat on Thursday sought to end speculation that he is an aspirant for the National Democratic Alliance's prime ministerial candidate.
There have been reports for the past two days that Shekhawat might contest Lal Kishanchand Advani as the prime ministerial candidate.
"Atalji, Advaniji and I have been together since 1951 and living like a family. There is no question of contesting against Advani," Shekhhawat said.
Reports said Shekhawat had announced his candidature for the Lok Sabha election and was ready to become prime minister if other parties supported him. "Nowhere have I said that I am contesting. While touring Rajasthan people of Bundi, Kota and Deoli asked me to represent them. I said if health permits I would contest Lok Sabha elections. Those who are against Advaniji and me gave it a new twist and are harming my political career," he said.
When told his decision to enter Lok Sabha has been welcomed by Sharad Pawar and Kalyan Singh, Shekhawat said that large number of politicians have lend their support.
"I have not been keeping good health of late. I had two open heart surgeries and two angioplasties and I have to take a number of medicines even to walk properly," he explained.
