Former Member of Parliament Matang Singh has launched Focus Television, exclusively for women.

Addressing mediapersons, head of the channel, Neeanjana Banerjee, said the equality between men and women continues be a utopian dream.

She said things are changing and women are, once again, playing a larger role in every field.

"The emotional, sexual, socio-cultural and psychological stereotyping of females begins when the doctor says 'it's a girl'," she says.

"Since the beginning of history, women have played a crucial role in building civilizations and societies. In India, women have been worshipped and revered. Women -- however -- have also been tortured, violated, suppressed and exploited," she said, explaining why the new channel has been launched.

"With this thought, we proudly announce the launch of Asia's first news and current affairs channel dedicated to women. Focus TV will capture and celebrate the strength and accomplishments of women… globally" Ms Banerjee said.

The channel has picked up only woman reporters to provide contents from all spheres of life.

"This what we believe in, this is what we stand for, and we will religiously fulfill this promise to women as we launch the channel formally on March 8th, International Women's Day. This channel will indeed be our gift to the world on International Women's day," she said.
