Bhutia hospitalised in Kuala Lumpur with fever

August 28, 2003 15:52 IST

Star striker Baichung Bhutia, currently on a foreign club assignment in Malaysia, has been hospitalised in Kuala Lumpur with high fever and related ailments.

Bhutia was hospitalised on Wednesday after playing a match against Malaka in the Malaysian Cup.

"We are waiting for details of the nature of Bhutia's ailment and his present condition," East Bengal Club president Dr Pranab Dasgupta said on Thursday.

Bhutia, taken on loan from East Bengal by top Malaysian outfit Perak FC, was reportedly fielded despite having a mild fever.

Perak won the tie 5-0 but Bhutia, who played for the entire 90 minutes, was admitted to a local hospital immediately after the match.
