Sania in doubles semis July 05, 2003 12:27 IST Sania Mirza and Alisa Kleybanova of Russia stormed into the semi-finals of the girls' doubles at Wimbledon on Friday. They defeated Emma Laine of Finland and Nadja Pavic of Crotia 6-1, 6-2 in the quarters. The Indo-Russian pair had upset top seeds Slovakian Jarmila Gajdosova and Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic in the first round. The match started with Sania-Kleybanova going up 2-0 with a service break in the second game. Kleybanova was broken in the third game but they came back immediately break back in the 4th game. From this point, Sania-Kleybanova reeled off the nine games in a row and the scoreline read 6-1, 5-0. The match took 63 minutes. The Indo-Russian duo will face American's Ally Baker and Iris Ichim in the semi-final. The American's shocked third seeds Katerina Bondarenko and Alyona Tsutaskova of Ukraine 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) in the quarter-finals. In the other semi-final, Katerina Bohmova of Czech Republic and Michaela Krajicek of the Netherlands will face Megan Falcon of US and Adriana Gonzalez Penas of Spain.
