Sourabh Kothari to go to England for training

November 08, 2003 19:17 IST

Snooker player Sourabh Kothari will be sent to England for training under the government's scheme for promising sports persons.

"The Sports ministry has sanctioned Rs 500,000 for Kothari under the scheme for promising sports persons and he will be heading for London for further training," Billiards and Snooker Federation vice-president R K Tandon said in Delhi on Saturday.

Sourabh, son of former World billiards champion Manoj Kothari, will go to London before the national championship, to be held at Indore in January next year.

The 23-year-old was runner-up in the junior event of the last edition of the national championship where he lost to World snooker champion Pankaj Advani.

The BSFI had earlier sent four cueists -- Advani, Rafath Habib, Yasin Merchant and Manan Chandra - to England in September under the same scheme.
