Lakhani goes down fighting

Third seed Rushmi Chakravathi and Megha Vakharia registered contrasting victories to move into the semi-finals of the Indian Oil Servo ITF women's championship in Bangalore on Thursday.

While Chakravarthi carved out a hard-fought 7-5, 6-2 victory over Punam Reddy, Vakharia disposed of Samrita Sekhar 6-3, 6-0.

In other quarter-final matches, top seed Suchanan Viratprasert of Thailand got past a fighting Isha Lakhani 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-4 while second seed Chin-Bee Khoo of Malaysia outplayed sixth seed Sai Jayalakshmi 6-1, 6-4.

In doubles, the top seeded pair of Rushmi Chakravarthi and Sai Jayalakshmi defeated Viratprasert and Geeta Manohar  6-4, 6-1 in the semi-finals to set up a title clash with the second seeded duo of Chin-Bee and Megha.

Chin-Bee and Megha outclassed Shruthi Dhawan and Sonal Phadke 6-3, 7-5.
