April 01, 2004 22:06 IST

India won the men's team title in the badminton tournament of the SAF games, thrashing Pakistan 3-0 on Thursday.

Earlier, they had won the women's title, beating Sri Lanka in the final.

Top Indian player Abhinn Shyam Gupta faced stiff resistance from Wajid Ali in the first game but used all his experience to emerge triumphant at 15-9, 15-5.

National champion Chetan Anand increased the lead with an easy 15-12, 15-5 win over Ahsan Qamar.

In the doubles, Markose Bristow and Rupesh Kumar were too good for their Pakistani opponents, Rizwan Rana and Umer Zeeshan, and wrapped the tie and the match 15-1, 15-7.
