The Indian women will take on Great Britain in the opening round of the Olympics Archery team championship after finishing fifth in the ranking round in Athens on Thursday.

The Indian team, comprising Dola Banerjee, Sumangala Sharma and Reena Kumari, finished with 1900 points from the 216-arrow ranking round and will now take on Britain in the opening knock-out round on August 20.

Britain finished 12th with a score of 1869 points in the 15-team event.

It was the South Korean team of Park Sung-Hyun, Lee Sung-Jin and Yun Mi-Jin that took the honours on the opening day by breaking the world record with a score of 2030.

The old mark of 1,994 was also set by the South Koreans at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Park also set a new world mark in the 72-arrow individual event with a score of 682 points.

The 21-year-old broke the earlier mark of 679 set in May by Italian Natalia Valeeva.

In the individual event, which begins Sunday, Banerjee is ranked 13th with a total of 642 in the 72-arrow event while Sumangala and Reena are 28th (638) and 43rd (620) respectively.
