Second title for Sania in Nigeria

October 17, 2004 13:27 IST

In a fierce battle of attrition, Sania Mirza came from behind to beat Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa 4-6, 7-6 (3), 7-5 in the final to win the USD 25000 ITF title in Lagos, Nigeria.

This is the second ITF title for Sania in two weeks at Lagos and her ranking should be less than 200 with this win.

After going down 4-6 in the first set to top seed Chanelle, Sania maintained her cool and put up a brilliant performance in the second set.

Down by 4-5, Sania fought her way back denying her opponent two match point and won the second set in a tie-breaker.

In the third set too, Sania was down 3-4, but the second seed staged a strong fightback and won the decider 7-5, to win her second title in the African capital city of Lagos.
