Bopanna falters at last hurdle April 10, 2005 21:58 IST Rohan Bopanna's impressive show in the US $10,000 ITF Futures men's tennis tournament in Colombo ended in anti-climax as he lost in the singles final in straight sets. The eighth seeded Indian lost 7-6(2), 6-2 to German Peter Mayer-Tischer to finish runner-up in the clay court event. Bopanna is on a comeback trail, having been off court for months following a shoulder injury, which necessitated surgery last year. Bopanna had earlier overcome a spirited challenge from 20-year old Jaco T Mathew to win the semi-final 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-3. The 24-year old Karnataka lad's disappointment was compounded by his loss in the doubles final. In an all-Indian final, the Davis Cupper, pairing with Vijay Kannan, went down 3-6, 4-6 to Vishal Uppal and Ashutosh Singh.
