Sporting Clube stun East Bengal

March 26, 2005 19:26 IST

Riding on a stellar display by their Nigerian trio, Sporting Clube de Goa stunned title holders East Bengal 3-2 in a fast, thrilling encounter of the ninth ONGC National Football League in Kolkata, on Saturday.

Foreigners Dudu Omagbemi, Edeh Chidi and Adewusi Adebayo scored one apiece for the Goans, while Rahim Nabi and Baichung Bhutia reduced the margin for the hosts.

The unexpected outcome brought East Bengal, topping the chart so far, at par with Dempo Sports Club with 27 points. Sporting Clube de Goa, on the other hand, improved their standing with 23 points in their kitty after the 13th round.
