Bhupathi-Woodbridge advance

May 06, 2005 23:14 IST

Leander Paes and Nenad Zimonjic saw their winning streak snapped as they crashed out in the quarterfinals of the ATP Tennis Masters in Rome, Italy, on Saturday.

Paes and Zimonjic, coming into the tournament with back to back Masters title in Monte Carlo and Barcelona went down to third seeded Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.

The sixth seeded Indo-Serbian pair had earlier defeated home challenge Daniele Bracciali and Giorgio Galimberti 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 in another tough match.

Paes' former partner Mahesh Bhupathi on the other hand had a smooth passage to the semifinals.

Bhupathi and his record breaking Grand Slam champion Todd Woodbridge of Australia entered the last-four stage after scoring a facile 6-3, 6-2 win over Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic and Tommy Robredo of Spain in the quarters.

The fifth seeded pair earlier had a walk over from Swedish-Russian combo of Joachim Johansson and Marat Safin in the second round.
