Sania moves down to 34th WTA rank

October 24, 2005 12:55 IST

Back injury came back to haunt tennis ace Sania Mirza, this time taking a toll on her rankings, as the teenager, out of action due to a strained muscle, slipped two rungs down to 34 in the singles and five down to 114 in the doubles on the latest WTA leader board.

It was the second consecutive week of downward spiral for Sania, who pulled out of the Thailand Open second round due to a lower back strain recently.

In doubles, the 18-year-old shed five places and is at 114 as against 109 last month.

Meanwhile, US-based Shikha Uberoi continued to creep upwards in the singles as she is ranked 145th. Rushmi Chakravarthi moved up three places and Sanaa Bhambri four to appear 414 and 471 respectively on the chart.
