Bhupathi-Hingis storm in round two

January 20, 2006 12:23 IST

The high-profile team of Martina Hingis and Mahesh Bhupathi made a rocking start at the Mebourne Park, overcoming Yeu-Tzuoo Wang of the Chinese Taipei and Na Li of China in the first round of the mixed doubles at the Australian Open on Friday.

The Indo-Swiss pair beat Wang-Li 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and 12 minutes to cruise into the second round in Melbourne.

Bhupathi, who won Wimbledon with Mary Pierce and US Open with Daniela Hantuchova last year, is well on course for his goal of 10 Grand Slam titles after he teamed up with the former world number one.

His partnership with Hingis was forged after the former champion decided to comeback to tennis in December after a three-year break.

Hingis and Bhupathi will take on the winner of the match between Jurgen Melzer-Anastasia Myskina and second seeds Jonas Bjorkman-Lisa Raymond.
