TFA down Punjab Police

Tata Football Academy topped the league table, outclassing Punjab Police 2-1, while Kerala's State Bank of Travancore tasted their maiden victory, beating Ever Ready 2-1, in the ONGC Cup second division National Football League at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Monday.

Punjab Police drew first blood in the first minute when TFA custodian Arindam Bhattacharya failed to grasp a goal-bound shot and striker Amarjeet Singh was quick to pounce on the chance and score.

After conceding the goal TFA attacked with vigour and restored parity through L M Fernandes in the 29th minute.

TFA captain Robert Lalthalma scored the winning goal soon after the lemon break.

With the victory, TFA have seven points from three matches, from two victories and a draw.

In the other match, SBT opened their account in the 38th minute from a penalty, scored by Pradeep.

Ever Ready striker M F Chibueze restored parity with a fine header in the 57th minute, but the Bank team fought back valiantly after conceding the goal and Pradeep scored again with a smart header after receiving a lob from the left flank in the 77th minute.

The Kolkata outfit then made an all-out effort to equalize but SBT goalkeeper H Rahman proved hard to beat.Ever Ready have four points from three outings, from a win and a draw.
