Sania Mirza [Images] followed up her singles success with a convincing first-round win in the doubles as she and Bethanie Mattek [Images] defeated Severine Bremond of France [Images] and Jelena Jankovic of Serbia at the US Open in New York on Thursday.

Sixteenth seeds Sania and Mattek of USA scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the first round

They will face  Jarmila Gajdosova of Slovakia and Bryamne Stewart of Australia in the second round.

Leander Paes [Images], who suffered a first-round loss in men's doubles, and Meghann Shaughnessy of United States reached the second round of mixed doubles, beating Janette Husarova of Slovakia and Pavel Vizner of Czech Republic 7-5, 6-3.
