On why he wrote the book

March 25, 2008
My Country, My Life, former deputy prime minister Lal Kishenchand Advani's memoirs, which was launched with much fanfare in New Delhi on March 19, on Tuesday got a low profile and quiet launch in Mumbai. Snapshots from the event.

Last year, on August 15, I saw all the news channels and newspapers had something or the other about India at 60. All of them had the most significant events of these 60 years. Though the numbers varied from 20 to 5, what I found remarkable was the fact that I was a participant in almost all of the events that found a mention in those lists. And the very few I wasn't directly involved in, I had been a ringside spectator.

That's when I found out that it is a very unique position that I am in. But I needed some persuasion. My family was of great support and they were constantly egging me on.

Also 2007 was when I turned 80. That's when I thought that to write something now would be proper.
