NSE-50 Index

Nifty gains 2.45 points

The market opened on a buyant note on the National Stock Exchange and prices of pivotals advanced marginally on moderate buying support from institutional investors.

Mirroring the trend, the NSE-50 index opened at 1103.80 points, touched the day's high of 1113.45 points, fell to the day's low of 1099.80 and later recovered marginally to close at 1105.80 points, netting a gain of 2.45 points over the previous close of 1103.35 points.

The NSE-50 index, however, dropped by 3.70 points to 963.30 points.

The Midcap index increased by 8.55 points to 1284.90 points as against the previous close of 1276.35 points.

The total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 14.2 billion.

ITC topped the list of turnover by registering highest turnover of Rs 5 billion, followed by Reliance Rs 1.1 billion, State Bank Rs 1.1 billion, Tata Tea Rs 895.6 million, and TELCO Rs 877.6 million.

Hectic activity was observed at the other counters like Castrol Rs 578.8 million, Hind Lever Rs 578.1 million, TISCO Rs 420.6 million, ACC Rs 407.6 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 265.8 million, MTNL Rs 200.5 million, L and T Rs 148.8 million, BHEL Rs 125.6 million, BSES Rs 100.1 million, Glaxo Rs 96.9 million, Infosys Tech Rs 92.2 million, Colgate Rs 91.2 million, Ponds Rs 76.1 million, Dabur Rs 72.4 million, Reck Colman Rs 71.7 million, LML Rs 71.3 million, Satyam Comp Rs 60 million, Dr Reddy Rs 59.9 million and Bank of India Rs 45.5 million.

Among the major gainers, nestle advanced by 10 per cent to Rs 383.85, TVS Suzuki increased by 6.72 per cent to Rs 485.55, Ind Rayon gained by 3.94 per cent to Rs 164.80, TELCO up by 3.89 per cent to Rs 253.10 and Ashok Leyland moved up by 3.50 per cent to Rs 40.05.

Among the losers, MRPL dropped by 5.50 per cent to 19.20, Cochin Ref lost by 1.95 per cent to Rs 207.25, HPCL declined by 1.87 per cent to Rs 430.90, Rel Petro eased by 1.86 per cent to Rs 21.50 and IPCL drifted lower by 1.63 per cent to Rs 70.50.
