Attach Murdoch's properties in India,
orders Delhi magistrate

All properties owned by media baron Rupert Murdoch in India should be attached for his failure to appear in court despite the issue of summons and arrest warrants in an obscenity case, a Delhi court ruled today.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Prem Kumar directed that a list of all moveable and immovable properties of Murdoch, owner of STAR TV, in India be prepared for the purpose.

Arun Aggarwal, who has accused the STAR Movies channel of showing obscene material, said it was clear that Murdoch was wilfully and deliberately disregarding the court since he was fully aware of the complaint.

This was proved by the fact that Rathikant Basu, chief executive officer of News Television (India) which manages STAR TV in the country, had put in an appearance in the case.

Earlier, the external affairs ministry had expressed its inability to execute the court's order to arrest and produce the America-based media baron in court. The court received the ministry's letter dated August 25 only last week.
