Infotech, HLL scrips lead rally; Sensex up over 11 points, 3108.67

Equities crept up on short covering by operators on the last day of the current settlement cycle, while foreign institutional investors participated nominally at the Bombay Stock Exchange today.

The BSE Senstive Index (Sensex) opened at 3090.24 points, witnessed a high and low of 3132.42 and 3079.38 points respectively, ending at 3108.67 points from the previous closing of 3097.12 points, showing a net gain of 11.55 points.

Marketmen informed that domestic institutions bought infotech scrips like Satyam Computer, NIIT and Pentafour Software and others like ITC, State Bank of India and Reliance. Institutions sold a sizable quantity of Hindustan Lever Limited shares.

The BSE-100 index ended at 1378.96, exhibiting an increase of 4.55 points, BSE-200 index at 318.29, gaining 0.89 points and Dollex index at 124.57, rising 0.35 points.

The total turnover on the BOLT network was Rs 9.69 billion from 41.9 million shares traded. ITC topped the turnover list with Rs 1.59 billion followed by Reliance (Rs 1.44 billion), Satyam Computer (Rs 1.11 billion), SBI (Rs 888.8 million) and Zee Telefilms (Rs 795.2 million).

Other scrips that recorded a high turnover were Pentafour Software, Castrol, Hindustan Lever Limited, MTNL, Dr Reddy's, Infosys Technologies, Tata Tea, L&T and BHEL.
