Nicholas Piramal in JV with Boots for health products

Nicholas Piramal India Limited is setting up a joint venture company with Boots Healthcare International to develop and market consumer healthcare products in India.

The joint venture company, named as Boots Piramal Healthcare Limited, will have initial share capital of Rs 50 million with Boots and NPIL contributing 51 per cent and 49 per cent respectively. BPHL will be headquartered in Bombay.

BPHL's business will be focused on BHI's existing core product categories of analgesics, upper respiratory and dermatological skincare. BPHL will initially market the following brands -- Strepsils (medicated sore throat lozenges), Icy (throat lozenges) and Sweetex (artificial sweetener) and Lobate and Melalite (both dermatological skincare).

The sales in India of these brands in 1997-98 were Rs 248 million. New products will be launched through BPHL.
