Pivotals lose intra-day gains; Nifty crawls up 1.25 points to 996.65

Pivotals lost their intra-day gains towards the fag end of trading on speculative selling pressure at the National Stock Exchange following non-passage of Budget and Finance Bill for the year 1999-2000 as per schedule in Parliament today.

Mirroring the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty index opened at 997.35 points, touched the day's high of 1003.40 points, a low of 990.95 points before closing at 996.65 points, showing a net gain of 1.25 points from the previous close of 995.40 points. The CNX Nifty Junior rose by 37.95 points to 1841.55 points from the previous close of 1803.60 points.

The S&P CNX Defty closed higher by 0.50 points to 691.76 points from the previous close of 806.60 points.

The CNX-500 and Midcap-200 rose marginally by 5.21 and 10.54 points to 691.76 points and 623.06 points from the previous close of 686.55 and 612.52 points respctively.

Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 1448.32 crore came from a trading of 507.28 lakh shares. Debentures traded value stood at rs 10.85 lakh.

Today, 632 securities advanced, 289 declined, 70 remained unchanged while 50 securities hit their price bands today.
