NSE-50 Index

Nifty shoots up 29.9 points

Pivotal prices shot up on renewed buying support from financial institutions and bull operators on the National Stock Exchange following an improvement in political crisis at the Centre today.

The NSE-50 Index opened at 1016.95 points, touched a day's high of 1048.95 points, before closing at 1046.75 points showing a net gain of 29.90 points as against the previous close of 1016.85 points.

The Dollar NSE-50 Index closed at 941.10 points, gaining 29.95 points over yesterday's close of 911.15 points. The Midcap Index finished at 1186.95 points as compared to previous close of 1160.70 points improved by 26.25 points.

The total turnover on the exchange was Rs 19.6 billion involving 65.6 million shares.

The top gainers were Castrol by Rs 60.5 to Rs 725.60, Colgate by Rs 21.45 to Rs 273.90, ACC by Rs 96.6 to Rs 1240.15, Ponds by Rs 76 to Rs 989.40 and Tata Tea by Rs 28.8 to Rs 388.70. The losers were Ashok Leyland by Rs 3.25 to Rs 43.65, Essar steel by Re 0.30 to Rs 16.85, Ranbaxy by Rs 3.6 to Rs 706.05 and TV Suzuki by Rs 0.25 to Rs 459.75.

The volume of the business was led by ITC with a turnover of Rs 3.9 billion followed by Reliance Rs 212.91 million, SBI-N Rs 2 billion, Tata Tea Rs 1.6 billion, Castrol Rs 1 billion, ACC Rs 843.5 million, TELCO Rs 312.8 million, TISCO Rs 244.8 million, MTNL Rs 229.6 million, Hind Lever Rs 217.5 million, Ponds Rs 187.9 million, P&G Rs 175.3 million, BHEL Rs 171.5 million, Bajaj Auto Rs 163.2 million, Colgate Rs 160.7 million, L&T Rs 129.1 million, BPCL Rs 82.1 million, LML Rs 73.3 million, OBC Rs 72.8 million, BSES Rs 6 million, Satyam Comp Rs 55.3 million, ICICI Rs 35.5 million, Ranbaxy Rs 33.4 million, Sterlite Rs 30.5 million and Pentsofware Rs 29.4 million.
