FIIs have been net buyers throughout this month

In a month characterised by extreme volatility in the markets, the foreign institutional investors, or FIIs, who are major sentiment-drivers in Indian markets were not net sellers even for single day.

All along they have been net buyers to the extent of Rs 20.00 billion, or $ 458.9 million. This flow has come in only nine straight trading sessions.

This is by far the largest FII amount to come in in such a short span. In entire February 2000, foreign funds brought in Rs 35 billion, or $708 million.

This kind of investment in normal market times would have resulted in the indices shooting up by at least 500 points. However, the market has hardly moved up this time around, despite heavy FII inflows.

This takes the total FII investment this year to Rs 65.02 billion, or $1491.2 million.

Going by the trend so far, this month could well be the one where FII investments could be the highest ever.
