Market@December 26: Day's report

During the first two hours, the software stocks remained under strong selling pressure.

Global Tele however recovered sharply from the lower circuit to an upper circuit of 8 per cent. Other stocks also followed, and managed to jump from their respective low.

Global Tele was the major gainer with an all-time high volume of 1.25 crore shares. Himachal gained marginally with an all-time high volume of 1.07 crore shares. Infosys also clocked an all-time high volume of 12.5 lakh shares, but, was down more than 5 per cent. These three stocks accounted for Rs 2827 crore or more than 50 per cent of the day's volume.

In the non-software segment ITC, Reliance, L&T, Bhel, ACC, Grasim and MTNL took a sharp beating.

Sensex down 72 points at 3833, Nifty down 29 points at 1213.
