Market@23 March: Day's report

Sensex down 83 points at 5119, Nifty dips 37 points to 1553.

Market opened strong but failed to sustain at higher levels. Software stocks showed mixed trend. While stocks like Wipro, HDFC, and TV 18 hit the upper circuit, Satyam Computers, Global Tele, SSI, and DSQ Software came under strong selling pressure.

For sensex, the main contribution came from ITC, Infosys, HLL, and SBI, these counters showed a sharp fall. Pharma sector remained weak while cylicals moved sideways.

Satyam Computers, Himachal Futuristic, DSQ Software, Global Tele, and Pentamedia topped the volume charts accounting for nearly 55 per cent of the total BSE turnover.

Zee Tele, Himachal Futuristic, Wipro, HPCL, IDBI, ICICI Bank, TV 18, Hughes Soft, Hero Honda, Colour Chips, Denim Enterprise, Lupin Lab, Indal, Global Trust, Salora International, Sonata Software, Gramophone, Mastek, Apollo Hospitals, Dolat Investment, Searle, Paschim Petro, Navneet Publications, Subros and Mirza Tanners.

Stocks at lower circuit
Sterlite, DSQ Soft, SSI, Gujarat Ambuja, GV Films, M&M, VSNL, Lee&Nee Software, ATN International, Cybermate, Datapro, Octogon Techno, Zenith Computers, Parke Davis, Computech, Mobile Tele, Kashyap Radiant, Parekh Platinum, Vans Info, Bilt, Ram Info and NELCO.

Stocks up over 5 per cent
Hindalco, TVS Suzuki, IOC, EID Parry, Berger Paints, KLG Systel, Vishwas Steel, Pudumji Pulp, HEG, BFL Software, Blue Dart, Priya Cement and Modi Xerox.

Stocks down over 5 per cent
Global Tele, Reliance Capital, Telco, SQL Star, HCL Techno, Orient Info, GNFC, Apollo Tyres, McDowell, Philips, Siemens, Crompton Greaves, Dabur, Alok Textile, Bharat Electronics, Classic Bio, LCC Infotech, Nocil, Henkel Spic, Adam Comsoft, TVS Electronics and Crest Communication.
