Market@May 19: Day's report

For major part of the day market showed a weak trend. It all started with two heavy weights Infosys and HLL losing substantially in the early part of the day. Infosys opened 2 per cent lower and fell to 8 per cent during the day. HLL too was down by more than 5 per cent during the day. Later Zee Tele joined the bandwagon and fell by more than 8 per cent.

Though some other software stocks were firm but they too could not hold for a long time. SSI hit the upper circuit but weakened later. Globa Tele was strong for most of the day. MTNL was one big loser shedding more than 10 per cent during the day. Refinery stocks like BPCL, HPCL posted major loss for the day.

Trading volumes remained reasonably high considering the last day of the settlement at the BSE. Satyam Computer, Infosys, Global Tele, Himachal Futuristic and Zee Tele accounted for 52 percent of the total turnover on the BSE.

Sensex down 123 points at 4068, Nifty down 25 points at 1268.

Gainers: Between 5 to 7.9 per cent
SSI, Cadila Health, Apollo Tyres, Veronica Lab, Adarsh Derivative, Maharaja Int, Hero Honda, Magan Ind, Krone Comm, Timex Watches, Pantaloon and Mudra Consultants.

Losers: Between 5 to 7.9 per cent
Infosys, Reliance Capital, HPCL, BPCL, Glaxo, Padmini Poly, Nestle, United Phos, Crest Communication, Kale Consultants, Datapro Info, Vindhya Tele, Gramophone, Global Tele, Kashyap Radiant, C-Mac Centum Elec, Tata Finance and Colour Chips.

Losers: Between 8 to 12 per cent
Zee Tele, MTNL, VSNL, Vikas WSP, Advent Computers, PCS, Computech Int, Fortune Info, Mindteck, United Brew, Valiant Comm, Birla Global and Shree MM Soft.
