RBI puts 5 co-op banks on watchlist

BS Banking Bureau

The RBI has put at least five co-operative banks on the watchlist and has directed all commercial banks to be 'cautious' in dealing with them.

The list includes Friends Co-operative Bank, First City Co-operative Bank, Sitara Co-operative Bank, Western Co-operative Bank, apart from Madhavpura and the two others, which are embroiled in the bullion scam.

The 'confidential' note was issued to banks chiefs recently. RBI officials, however, could not be contacted for their comments.
