Market@April 24: Day's report

After a volatile first half, software stocks showed an extremely sharp rise. Himachal, DSQ Software, Silverline and Global managed to hit 16 per cent upper circuits.

Pentamedia, Digital and Wipro also gained more than 10 per cent each. Other stocks also showed a smart jump from their lows.

Among the old economy counters, while Reliance, HLL, Ranbaxy and ITC remained under pressure, Cipla, MTNL, Tata Tea and IPCL showed smart gains. The overall trading volume was significantly high.

Sensex up 3 points at 3590. Nifty down 3 points at 1147.
