Market@February 22: Day's report

Software stocks remained volatile. After witnessing panic selling during the first half, stocks recovered sharply.

Himachal triggered the recovery. From a lower circuit of 8 per cent, the counters managed to turn positive during the second half. Finally, it was down by 2 per cent.

Tata Elxsi, meanwhile, hit 16 per cent upper circuit. HCL Info also gained 6 per cent. Other stocks also managed to show a sharp recovery from their respective lows.

Old economy counters also attracted selling pressure and volatility was witnessed on cement counters. ITC was major gainer. It gained 4 per cent.

Reliance also showed a smart recovery from the day's low during the second half of the day.

Sensex down 40 points at 4262. Nifty down 14 points at 1356.

Sterlite, VSNL, CMC, Atlas Copco, Fujistu ICIM, Panacea Bio, RPG Life.

Losers: Between 7.9 per cent and 16 per cent
Bombay Dyeing, Kesoram, Padmalaya Tele, Onward Tech, Ami Computers, Jindal Online, Sibar Soft, Cybermate.

Losers: Between 5 per cent and 7.89 per cent
