Electronic sector grew 22 per cent in 1999-2000: Survey

ECONOMIC SURVEY

The pre-Budget economic survey on Friday noted that the consumer electronics sector continues to consolidate its production base and achieved Rs 112 billion worth of output in 1999-2000, growing at 22 per cent.

The Colour Television (CTV) industry witnessed phenomenal growth during 1999, crossing the 5.7 million unit production level during that year, the survey noted.

It said prices of CTVs continued to be slashed, in keeping with global trends, accompanied by price downtrend in the computer industry too.

Also, the component industry, specially those components used in the manufacturing of CTVs, also improved their performance in the period under review, the survey said.
