Service tax net expanded

Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha on Wednesday announced expansion of the service tax net, including specified banking and financial services.

Presenting the Budget for 2001-02 in the Lok Sabha, he said this would include authorised service stations for servicing of vehicles, including two wheelers, services relating to ports, broadcasting, photographic, conventions, sound recording, scientific and technical consulting, telex, telegraph, facsimile, on-line information and data base retrieval, video tape production and services auxiliary to insurance.
