'Cars will be more affordable to the middle-class'

C K Birla

With the slashing of excise duty on cars in the Union Budget, the benefit of reduction in prices will be passed on to consumers. More middle-class people will be able to afford a car. There will be a 10 to 12% reduction in car prices.

Hindustan Motors is investing about Rs 750 million to upgrade the Ambassador as we feel there is a definite market for this car. We have been making regular public announcements about HM's future plans.

The rationalisation of excise duty on auto ancillaries will have no direct affect on car manufacturers like HM.

C K Birla is chairman, Hindustan Motors Limited
