Market@March 22: Day's report

After a firm start, the software counters remained weak for a major part of the day. SSI and NIIT were most hit. While SSI lost 10 per cent, NIIT was also down by 9 per cent.

Infosys, Satyam, Wipro, Digital and DSQ Software also remained under pressure and dipped significantly.

The old economy counters showed a dull trend. ITC, L&T, Cipla and BSES remained firm, whereas other stocks remained weak for a major part of the day. The trading volume was relatively higher.

Sensex down 77 points at 3714. Nifty down 22 points at 1185.

Gainers: Between 7.9 per cent and 16 per cent
Saw Pipes, ICI India, Trent, Centak Chem, Blue Dart.

Gainers: Between 5 per cent and 7.89 per cent
Hitech Drilling, Jindal Steel, Fourth Gen, Mobile Tele, Denim Ent, Shasun Chem, Tata SSL, Gesco Corp.

Losers: Between 7.9 per cent and 16 per cent
SSI, NIIT, Wartsila NSD, VisaulSoft, Onward Tech, Padmalaya Tele, Hinduja Finance.

Losers: Between 5 per cent and 7.89 per cent
