Market@March 23: Day's report

For the fifth consecutive Friday, the market showed a sharp dip. Tech stocks witnessed strong selling and dipped sharply.

Himachal and SSI lost more than 9 per cent each. Digital, Wipro, Global, DSQ Software and Silverline also dipped more than 7 per cent each.

The old economy counters also remained under selling pressure for a major part of the day. Ranbaxy, ACC, RPL, SBI, L&T, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Grasim, Tata Power, Gujarat Ambuja, Telco and Reliance lost significantly.

The trading volume improved marginally.

Sensex down 79 points at 3635. Nifty down 24 points at 1163.

Gainers: Between 7.9 per cent and 16 per cent
Usha Beltron, Blue Star, Sandvik Asia.

Gainers: Between 5 per cent and 7.89 per cent
Hinduja Finance, Global Trust, Hotel Leela, Mobile Tele, Deepak Fert, Vorin Lab.

Losers: Between 7.9 per cent and 16 per cent
Himachal, SSI, Silverline, Tata Power, Sterlite, HCL Info, VisualSoft, Orient Info, Chennai Petro, Bombay Dyeing, Amara Raja Batteries.

Losers: Between 5 per cent and 7.89 per cent
Global, Wipro, DSQ Software, Digital, Pentamedia, ACC, DSQ Bio, Tata Elxsi, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, BPL, Century, Wartsila NSD, India Cements.
