Market@May 25: Day's report

The software stocks showed a good recovery during the second half of the day. Silverline gained 8 per cent and Tata Elxsi hit upper circuit at 16 per cent. Satyam also gained 4 per cent, whereas the performance of other stocks was positive. SSI lost 4 per cent.

The sentiment for old economy stocks was also positive. Grasim and Tata Power remained in great demand. The pharma stocks dipped sharply during the first one hour, but showed good recovery from their respective lows. Reliance also remained firm. Other stocks could not show significant gains.

Sensex down 23 points at 3660. Nifty down 5 points at 1177.
