Narayana Murthy to be chief architect of InfosysOur Correspondent in Bangalore
"I am certainly not retiring," Murthy said, sitting next to his successor Nandan Nilekani at the media briefing to announce the results of the company. Infosys declared its annual results for the fiscal 2001-02, posting a gross revenue of Rs 26.04 billion, including Rs 25.52 billion from overseas' software services and products, registering a growth rate of around 37 per cent over the previous fiscal (2000-01) of Rs 19 billion. Its net profit for the year under review at Rs 8.08 billion was up by about 30 per cent over the corresponding period of 2002-01 of Rs 6.23 billion. "The requirement is to look at the architecture of the company five years from now. I will be participating in the leadership institute duties. I will always be there to give advice to anybody," he said. Narayana Murthy was earlier named chairman and chief mentor by the board of directors after Nilekani took over as CEO, managing director and president of the country's second-largest software exporter. Nilekani handed over the job of chief operating officer to the deputy managing director S Gopalakrishnan. Murthy's new role as chief mentor, a designation that Bill Gates of Microsoft shares in the global corporate world, came into focus at the news conference when Nilekani and the other directors were handling media questions. "My original desire was not to attend this." But, in his new role, Murthy admittedly needs to change. "I am very proactive. This is the only issue because whenever there is something I would run and do it. I have to think ten times now before I ask something. Other than this, I don't see any issue." Murthy would travelling abroad most of the time, though for the next three months he will be in India. He said that he was "excited about this transition. It is a great team of extraordinary people who will be charting out the course for Infosys." ALSO READ:

Infosys Technologies Chairman N R Narayana Murthy said on Wednesday in Bangalore that he would continue to be associated with Infosys even after giving up the mantle of its CEO.
