North America still spells cash for Infosys

North America constituted 71 per cent of the Infosys Technologies' revenue for both, the quarter ended and the full year to March 2002.

In actual terms, the company's revenue from the region stood at Rs 481 crore of the total Rs 6.80 billion earned during the quarter, while Europe contributed 20 per cent or Rs 1.34 billion to the total revenue.

Interestingly, in terms of operating margin, business from Europe registered a increase to climb to 40.92 per cent from 39.95 per cent as against the drop in operating margin from North America.

Operating margin from North America slipped to 38.78 per cent from 43.04 per cent.

Operating profit margin is operating income expressed as a percentage to total revenue.

Revenue from India to Rs 106 million constituted a marginal 1.6 per cent of the total revenue for the quarter.

In contrast to the quarterly show, for fiscal 2001-02 the company has reported a distinct drop in the share of revenue from North America.

The region contributed Rs 18.54 billion during the year to total revenues, or 71 per cent. In the previous fiscal (2000-01) revenue from North America was Rs 13.97 billion or 73.5 per cent of the company's total revenue.

The share of Europe to total revenue surged from 18.8 per cent to 19.5 during 2001-02.

In terms of operating margins the story was no different during the fiscal with Europe reporting a rise, while North America reporting a drop.

Operating margin from North America slipped to 39.86 per cent from 41.24 per cent, while for the Europe region it climbed to 38.93 per cent from 37.93 per cent during the fiscal.
